Adult and Adolescent Literacy - Our "Best Practices" middle school workshop will be held on January 7, 2006. Breakout sessions for teachers of the adolescent learner will be scheduled. Contact Janine Sack.

Families and Reading - Our summer book donations to the Norristown Police Department were distributed to five city camps. Fall plans include book distribution to children from the officers patrolling in their cars, as well as the continuation of our reading program at the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown. Books, book sorters, and volunteer readers are always needed. Contact Marianne Nolan or Eleanor Smith.

GA/DVRA Workshops - The year "Teach to Reach" will feature distinguished educator, Dr. Irene Gaskins and authors Peter Catalanotto, Susan Katz, and Jen Bryant. In addition, breakout session speakers will also be scheduled. Contact Anne Elliott Brown.

Government Relations - Contact this committee to receive up-to-the-minute information on current educational issues before Congress and the  Pennsylvania state legislature. Contact Bob Szabo.

Homeless Children and Reading - Members of this committee work directly with children in a homeless shelter in Philadelphia. Story hours and parent workshops are provided for the residents. Contact Marie Reynolds.

International Perspectives - This committee has a direct connection with Croatia and Malawi in central Africa through emeritus board member Sharon Kletzien. Teachers wishing to participate in an international literacy project with children should contact Mary Strong.

Literacy Awards - We are seeking suggestions of individuals or groups within the Delaware Valley who work to promote literacy in their schools or communities. Contact Theresa Deckenbach.

Newspapers in Education - Teachers submit issues of their class or school newspaper for our annual NIE Award. Contact Karen Wolkin.
